傳承宗族文化的祠堂繼文革後再次遇劫，中共在多地開展「祠堂變講堂」建設工作，強佔多個祠堂改為「紅色教育」新時代文明實踐站，開展活動宣傳黨思想。一些未被改他用的祠堂則被永久取締或拆毀，不得重建。
